Antique S&W .44 DA Revolver Nickel w/ Pearl Grips & Factory Letter
Serial #54406, .44 Russian, 5" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some minor spots of freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, and latch, with the metal retaining about 85-90% of the original nickel finish with some scattered small areas of dark plum-brown where the nickel has flaked off. A moderate turn-ring is present on the rear of the cylinder as well. The hammer and tigger have an overall freckled gray patina, but retain visible original color case-hardening on protected areas, while the latch and trigger guard are lightly freckled through the otherwise bright original blue finish. The grips are period genuine mother-of-pearl with some minor age toning on either side, but no visible cracks or chips. The lock-up is still tight with no lateral play in the barrel when shut, and the action is fully functional in both single and double-action. The revolver is accompanied by a June, 2022-dated S&W Factory Letter that lists a shipping date of March 28, 1914, to H.A. Astlett & Co., 64 Walter St., New York City (a well-known rubber importer). S&W records lists the revolver as a single gun shipment possibly for the owner of this company. This is a handsome top-break S&W, and would make a great addition to a collection. Antique
