Texas Longhorn Arms “Grover's Improved Number 5” 44 Mag SA W/ Holster
Serial #K-430, .44 Magnum, 5 ½ inch barrel with a bright, excellent bore. This is the “Grover's Improved Number Five” single action revolver manufactured by Texas Longhorn Arms in Richmond, Texas circa late 1980's. This unique single action was to be an honorable improvement upon the famed Elmer Keith #5 Single Action Army revolver. It was designed by Bill Grover of Texas Longhorn Arms and was built to load and unload from the right hand with loading gate and ejector rod on the left side so that one could do so without changing hands. The cylinder also rotates in a counter clockwise manner. The frame is based upon an improved version of the original Colt Bisley and Grover incorporated several other unique features including a shotgun style trigger that is further back with very limited travel, and a low wide hammer. It has a classic flat top with fixed partridge square blade front and micro adjustable rear sight. There is an excellent article in Guns Magazine by John Taffin titled “The No. 5 Single Action / Saluting A Fine Sixgun Made By A Master” which details the history of this revolver and the company which produced it. Production was to be limited to 1200 but according to the Taffin article it never reached that number. This example remains in excellent like new condition retaining virtually all, 99% plus original blue finish with only very minor handling blemishes and does not have any noticeable drag line on the cylinder. The Walnut grips are likewise excellent. It comes with an original Texas Longhorn Arms Inc. leather holster also in excellent condition. A rarely seen highly desirable single action revolver in like new condition. FFL
