Unit Marked German Gew. 1871 Mauser Rifle by Amberg
Serial #56673, 11mm Mauser, 33 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling towards the muzzle. This is an 1879-dated rifle that has a mismatched but correct bolt. The barrel has a mottled gray patina with plum-brown on a few of the protected areas, while the receiver and bolt have a slightly lighter pewter gray appearance. The walnut stock has numerous handling marks and blemishes scattered about the added oil finish, with some additional plum-brown on the barrel bands (the upper sling swivel has been removed). There is a clear unit marking on the buttplate tang: "2.A.F. / 10.106" (2nd Regiment, Foot Artillery, Battery 10, Rifle #106), and the original cleaning rod is still in place. This is a very good plus example of a Gew. 1871 Mauser, and would make a nice addition to any collection. Antique
