Antique 3rd Model 38 Safety Hammerless Smith & Wesson
Serial #77222, .38 S&W, 3 1/4” ribbed round barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing patches of light pitting throughout the otherwise strong rifling. This is the third model 38 Safety Hammerless revolver manufactured by Smith & Wesson from 1890-1898. In excellent overall condition the double action revolver retains about 94-96% of the original bright nickel finish with areas of light flaking and bubbling toning to brown primarily on the cylinder with small patches on the barrel and frame top. The trigger retains most of its original case-hardened finish with some fine speckles of light oxidation on the face. The trigger guard and barrel latch retain about 75% original blue with some wear to gray patina. The smooth mother-of-pearl grips rate very good plus with a small chip in the top of both panels near the knuckle and a slightly larger chip in the other corner of the left panel near the trigger guard. All the numbered parts are serialized to the frame, barrel-to-frame fit is about excellent, as are timing and lock-up. The action functions well. A very nice example of this classic, antique Smith & Wesson revolver. Antique
