Scarce Toronto Police Webley RIC No. 1 Revolver Retailed by David Bentley

Serial #34191, .442 CF, 3 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of mild freckling within the grooves.  This is a great looking, transitional model revolver that has all matching serial and assembly numbers.  The metal retains traces of the original bright blue on protected areas, with the balance flaked to a mottled, gray and plum-brown patina.  The topstrap is marked, "DAVID BENTLEY / BIRMINGHAM," and the left side of the frame has the Webley "Winged Bullet" trademark.  Additionally, Toronto Police Force property and inventory markings are present on the left side of the frame: "TPF / 160".  The checkered walnut grip is in very good shape with flattening of the points and minor handling marks throughout the original oil finish.  Additionally, there are a few very small chips at the top of the grip where it meets the frame knuckle.  David Bentley was a well-known Birmingham maker and retailer (in business from 1845 – 1883), and supplied many British dominion and colonial constabularies with Webley revolvers during that time.  This is a very good example of a Canadian police-marked RIC revolver, and would make a great addition to a collection.  Antique
