Antique Mauser Model 1871 Sporting Rifle Excellent Quality
Serial #2909K, .43 Mauser (11 x 60mmR), 26 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a very handsome rifle that has about 95-97% of an old, very well done reapplied blue finish on the unmarked receiver and barrel. There is some minor fading at the muzzle, as well as along the edges of the facets on the receiver, while the spoon-handled bolt is finished arsenal bright and has numerous small spots of freckling throughout. The rifle is fitted with a sporting bead front sight on a long ramp, mated to a two-leaf rear sight. The walnut stock has an uncheckered, schnabel-tipped forend, side panels at the receiver, finely checkered straight wrist and an elaborate trigger guard surrounding the double-set triggers. The wood has an old reapplied oil finish with small handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered about. A few small chips are missing here and there, and there are some carved notches along the right side of the forend. The action is fully functional and the set trigger is very light but with a crisp release. This is a very good quality German hunting rifle, and is in fine-near excellent condition overall. Antique
