Argentine Model 1891 Mauser Rifle by DWM with 1960s US Army Registration
Serial #W0961, 7.65mm Argentine, 29'' barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid looking, all matching rifle (including the cleaning rod) with "scrubbed" receiver crest, that retains 95-97% of the original blue finish on the metal, with some mild silvering at the muzzle, along the high and exposed edges, and the original armory bright along the bolt body, with some mild plum-brown freckling on the handle and bolt knob. The bolt latch and rear sight slider retain a commensurate amount of the original fire blue as well. All of the remaining markings are crisp and clear. The matching number stock rates fine, with some scattered handling marks and blemishes, mainly a couple of bruises on the right side at the receiver. Aside from the serial number, no other markings were ever applied to the wood. Included with the rifle is an August 26, 1963-dated SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) firearms registration certificate issued by the Provost Marshal, Paris to a Sp/5 in the US Army, listing the rifle by serial number. This is a fine-near excellent example of an Argentine rifle that was cleaned of national markings for Paraguayan use in the Chaco War, and comes with a rarely seen US Army-issued certificate.
