French Model 1874 Gras Bayonet by St. Etienne Mfg. 1878

 This is a French Model 1874 bayonet for the Gras rifle manufactured by St. Etienne in 1878.  It measures 25 3/8 inches overall with a 20 ½ inch straight, T-shaped blade that remains in very fine condition with an overall pewter gray patina with some moderate carbon staining and clear marking along the spine.  The hooked quillon and muzzle ring have a darker mottled patina and is marked with serial #17112.  The wood grips are solid showing some minor contusions.  It comes in a non-matching number steel scabbard that shows much of the original blue with scattered areas of light oxidation.  A fine / very fine example overall.
