Benet Primed .58 Caliber “Button Head” Centerfire Cartridge Indian War Conversion Rifle
This is a single cartridge manufactured by the Frankford Arsenal for use in the early cartridge conversion of 58 caliber Civil War Springfield Armory rifles in the post Civil War years that saw use in the Indian Wars. The copper cased rimmed cartridge is internally primed held by two crimps to hold the Benet primer and the slightly raised round spot in the center is the “Button” where the primer is located and hence the nickname of the cartridge. An important cartridge in the history of firearms and the progression to the modern center fire. The cartridge is in excellent condition with slight age darkening. Multiple available.
