British-Proofed Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six-Shooter DA Revolver
Serial #24282, .44 WCF (.44-40), 5 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling and pinprick pitting just at the muzzle. This is an 1889-made revolver that has retained about 30-40% of the original nickel plate, with the balance flaked to a freckled pewter gray and plum-brown patina. Most of the nickel remains on the barrel, cylinder, and trigger guard, while the trigger and hammer retain a large amount of their original bright fire blue. The checkered hard rubber grips are numbered to the gun on the interior, and have mild wear and flattening of the points on either panel. Additionally, the butt of the right panel has an added rack or inventory stamp that reads, "CA / 610." This could be a unit marking, or a later private registration marking of some type. The mechanical lock-up is still tight, and the action functions flawlessly in both single and double-action. This is a handsome British-proofed ‘78 Frontier Six-Shooter, and is in very good-near fine condition overall. Antique
