Deluxe Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall Rifle in .32 Long RF Special Order

Serial #40239, .32 Long RF, 30" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of mild freckling within the grooves.  This is an 1890-made rifle that features: factory globe front and Vernier tang rear sights, single-set trigger, fancy wood, and a Swiss butt-equipped stock with rounded cheek-piece.  The barrel retains 60-70% original blue fading to smooth plum-brown with silvering along the edges of the facets, as well as thin freckling along the top surfaces.  The frame likewise has a mottled brown patina with thin freckling throughout, as well as on the breechblock, hammer, and lever.  The walnut forend and stock are in very good shape with only minor handling marks scattered about, although an ill-fitting bone inlay was installed on the nose of the forend, and the hooked brass buttplate has an overall dark ochre patina.  The configuration is confirmed on an accompanying Cody Data Sheet, which also lists a shipping date of May 9, 1890; as well as a repair and return on September 1, 1898.  This is a very good-near fine example of a special order Low-Wall, and would make a nice addition to any collection.  Antique
