English Dangerous Game Percussion Sporting Rifle Brunswick rifled

NSN, .78 Caliber, 30" octagonal Brunswick rifled barrel with a Very good bore with strong rifling and very light corrosion in spots. This is an attractive back action rifle that has an overall darkly mottled plum-brown patina along the barrel that has patches of dark pitting at the breech with a matching plum-brown and gray patina on the "Harvey & Son/EXETER" marked lock and hammer. The breech has a deeply struck Harvey & Son hallmark on the top with a single encircling platinum band and a platinum blow out plug on the nipple bolster. The lockplate and hammer are nicely engraved with loose floral scroll with sunburst and scroll on the top tang. The lock is tight and fully functional. The half-length walnut stock has an old added varnish over numerous small handling marks and bruises and is fastened by a single wedge with plain oval escutcheons. There is an ornately engraved, lightly freckled triggerguard with pineapple finial and bright original blue along the interior of the bow. The checkering has been expertly refreshed and is now quite sharp with very little wear evident. There are also small chips missing from the right side of the top tang just behind the nipple shield and ahead of the bolster. The lightly freckled buttplate stands a bit proud of the wood with the top tang actually free of its inletting for much of its length. The gun comes with a well used wooden ramrod held by two plain thimbles and a decorated tail-pipe. Vacant sling swivels are present on the gun. This is a handsome, Brunswick style Dangerous Game sporting rifle most likely used in Africa. It is in very good-near fine condition. Antique
