English Short Barrel Turn-Off Flintlock Pistol By Scott of London 45 Caliber

This is a .45 Caliber black powder muzzle-loading, flintlock turn-off barrel “Muff” or pocket pistol with a 1 ¾ inch turn off barrel that is firmly in place and currently is frozen in position with a very fine dark bore.  Manufactured in England it is marked “Scott” on the left frame and “London” on the right along with simple engraving.  Both the barrel and frame show English proof marks.  The metal surfaces have a dark gray patina with small areas of surface roughness.  The action functions properly with hammer holding at half and full cock, strong springs, releasing with a crisp trigger pull.  A great example of the once very popular self protection carry gun of its day.  Antique
