Fine Antique Allen & Wheelock 32 RF Side Hammer Revolver 2nd Model Civil War
Serial #321, .32 RF (black powder), 4 inch octagon barrel with a fine bore with strong rifling and scattered roughness. This is a late 2nd model 32 Sidehammer revolver manufactured by Allen & Wheelock. Officially manufactured from 1859 to 1862 with total quantity estimated at over 1000 this example has the early quick drop style grips and non-engraved cylinder which marked the last changes to the 2nd Model. A rugged and reliable Civil War era revolver that saw production suspended with the Rollin White lawsuit for patent infringement for bored through cylinders. This example remains in fine condition retaining about 25-30% of the original blue finish that has toned to a mottled brown with the balance pewter-gray. The barrel and frame markings remain strong and all numbered parts are matching. The rosewood grips rate excellent with much of the original finish remaining. The action functions correctly with proper indexing holding at half and full cock and releasing with a crisp trigger pull. A fine example of these neat little 32 Sidehammer revolvers many of which saw service as private carry guns in the Civil War. Antique
