Japanese Aikuchi Dagger
This small dagger has no guard but is made with a wooden grip and scabbard. The overall length is 12 3/8". An oval shaped scabbard measures 8 3/4" with 2 pieces of wood hollowed to accept the blade and then re-glued. The slightly curved single edge blade is fitted with a wood "habaki"(blade collar to its ricasso). Its "mune"(back edge) is "lori" shaped(with a raised ridge along its length). Removal of the "mekugi" or wood peg allows removal of the handle revealing signs of corrosion and Japanese symbols. A nice clean example.
