Marlin Model 1881 Rifle Chambered In .38-55
Serial #14068, .38-55, 24" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some trace freckling within the grooves. This is a great looking rifle that has some of the original blue remaining on the protected areas of the barrel and magazine tube. The frame retains about 30-40% of the original blue finish, with the balance either faded to speckled gray, or lightly cleaned to a dull pewter gray patina. Some bright fire blue can still be seen on the loading gate, and muted color case-hardening is still just visible on the lever. The walnut forend and buttstock are in very good condition with minor handling marks scattered about the original oil finish, and a short, with-the-grain crack at the frame juncture of the wrist on the right side. A previous owner stamped their name in neat block letters on the right side of the wrist as well: "S.P. HEATH." The action functions smoothly and fully, and the rifle rates fine plus overall. Antique
