Original Federal Cartridge box Pattern of 1855 .58cal

This is a Federal Cartridge box "Pattern 1855", it was ornamented with the brass "US" box plate.  This pattern has two inside flaps covering the tins and the front implements pouch.  Belt straps are centered, sewn and riveted.  Latch tab is sewn only, brass finial is round without a point.  Two iron buckles are sewn only. Both tins intact. This is in good condition with a missing box plate and torn on one side strap with most of the deterioration on the top flap on the outer leather. There is no apparent makers mark but this has the frequently seen "*" embossed marks in many locations. Over-all measures 8.2" X 1.9" X 6.8", inside 6.8" X 1.4" X 5.5"
