Original Pattern 1851 Enlisted Sword Belt Plate Buckle with Keeper
Fine example of a rectangular cast-brass belt plate, 3 ½" x 2", U.S. pattern of 1851 enlisted, depicting an American eagle with outstretched wings, with a pennant bearing the motto "E Pluribus Unum" in its beak, a shield on its breast and arrows and a laurel branch in its talons. The eagle is encircled by a laurel wreath and topped with 13 stars and a sunburst, silver wreath, all on a stippled background. The reverse is fitted with a 3/4" wide retaining hook that is marked "135". This example shows only light use with light verdigris. This is accompanied by the original keeper with matching patina to the plate, the keepers fit to the plate is excellence. Over-all in near excellence original condition.
