Rare 6 Combustible Envelope 44-100 Empty Box

This is an excellent condition empty, 6 Combustible Envelope cartridges box with an easy to read, clear front cover stating "made of American Powder Co. Powder for the Remington, Colt & Others Revolving Holster Pistol, 44-100 Inch Calibre" Box is complete with cover open on three edges. The combustible cartridges for use in Colt’s patent revolvers had been developed during the mid-1850s. Colt had experimented with a variety of combustible materials to contain the powder charge and attach it to the bullet. The rectangular packet measures 2 3/4” x 1 1/2”
