Rare Marlin Victor Derringer 38 Rimfire Pistol Long Barrel
Serial #13898, 3 1/4” barrel with a dark, lightly pitted bore with rifling still visible. This is a rare Victor model manufactured by Marlin between 1870-1881 with a part octagon / part round barrel that swings sideways for loading. Flayderman's guide and Brophy's Marlin book only list this model with 2 – 11/16” barrel making this an unusual longer barrel model. A rare gun to begin with, estimated total production was under 2000, this one has an uncataloged longer barrel. The gun is in fine to near excellent condition with over half of the original blue finish on the barrel that has faded to a mottled pewter gray with sharp lettering “J.M. MARLIN/NEW HAVEN. CT./PAT. APRIL.5. 1870” on the side and “VICTOR” on the top with several small nicks and use marks. The brass frame has a pleasing dark patina also with small scattered use marks and nicks and the original rosewood grips are excellent with several small hairline cracks running with the grain. Mechanically the functions properly with only a slight bit of lateral play in the barrel when locked into position. A really nice example of a very rare gun. Antique
