Scarce Ross Model 1905 - 1910 Match Target Rifle

Serial #B5270, .280 Ross, 30 1/2" barrel with an excellent bright bore. This is the 2nd type Long Range Target (single-shot) with narrow forend, and has an overall bright, in-the-white finish with some spots of dark plum-brown freckling in spots along the barrel, action, and bolt. In addition to the standard Ross markings, the breech is extensively London proofed, and a small, unobtrusive import stamp has been added to the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend. The rifle bolt uses the interrupted thread locking lugs and is equipped with a front sight stud (for mounting a tubular front target sight), and is equipped to mount a back sight for firing in the recumbent position (sight not included). The stock has scattered minor handling marks and minor surface blemishes in the original varnish finish, and is mechanically excellent. These rifles are extremely rare in any condition, and this example rates very good plus overall. The rifle was purchased by John Anderson, late of the W.R. Yorkshire Constabulary, and twice a member of the Great Britain Police Shooting Team, having competed in the European Police Shooting Championships in 1960 and 1963. P.C. Anderson became a gun dealer after he retired, and bequeathed the rifle to the current owner.
