Antique George Cloos Crosby Fife Rosewood Nickel

This is a marked “George Cloos Crosby” fife with maker cartouche that measures 15 3/8 inches in length with a bore diameter of approximately .42 inches. It appears to be of presentation quality. They began production at the end of Civil War and were made in Brooklyn, New York. The fife is made of rosewood with nickel or German silver ferrules that measure just shy of 2 inches. The ferrules each have a line of knurling at the top and bottom which has worn smooth with time. There is a partial cut slit that extends 3/4 of the way around the non-musical ferrule which also shows an 1/8” diameter spot with finish loss. Both ferrules have minor dents from years of use and handling. The rosewood body of the fife is in good condition with scattered small handling marks retaining an overall glossy appearance. A Great instrument that dates to the late 19th century and possibly the Civil War. Please see the photographs for further information on condition.
