Springfield US Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle 45-70

Serial #562268, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has retained 60-70% of the original blue, with most of the loss occurring on the barrel, which now has a smooth, mostly plum-brown patina. The receiver, and lock retain much of the original blue finish, with some light freckling around the edges of the lockplate. The 1884 dated breech block has most of the vivid original color case-hardening remaining. The walnut stock is in fine condition with some handling marks in the military oil finish, and a still crisp and legible "SWP/1890" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The stock compartment contains both an original combination tool, and an original headless shell extractor. Additionally, the rifle is outfitted with both an original leather sling and front sight hood. This is an extremely nice Trapdoor that rates about fine overall. Antique
