Tranter Model 1868 Revolver in Rare .442 Caliber by E.M. Reilly & Co.
Serial #952, .442 CF, 3 3/4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome, swiveling ejector rod variant Model 1868 type revolver, made by E.M. Reilly & Co. of London, and so marked on the topstrap: "E.M. REILLY & Co. / OXFORD STREET, LONDON." The revolver has very few other markings, save for the serial number, proofs, and the caliber stamped into the cylinder "442." The metal retains 92-95% of the original nickel finish, with some minor flaking and brown freckling along some of the edges and projections. The hammer, loading gate, cylinder pin, trigger, and ejector rod retain a good amount of the original nitre blue finish, with some mild freckling and silvering on the balance. The checkered walnut grip is in very good shape with some minor handling marks and flattening of the points, as well as a small chip at the knuckle on the right side. The action is tight and locks up firmly. This is a very nice Tranter type revolver in an unusual caliber, from a well-respected maker, and is in excellent condition overall. Antique
