WW1 Winchester Winder Musket Low Wall US Marked 22 Short Mfg 1918
Serial #128579, .22 Short, 28 inch barrel with a very good bore with some erosion showing at the muzzle and throat. This is the Winchester model 1885 Low Wall Musket, Third Model, known as the “Winder” Musket manufactured in 1918. The Martially marked rifle shows the “US” over the flaming bomb ordnance symbol on the frame and was the training rifle of the US military. In very fine condition the falling block action rifle has about 60-65% fading blue on the barrel which tones to plum-brown with scattered light scratches and use marks. The frame is mostly a mottled brown with protected areas of blue but the lever retains much of the original finish. The walnut musket-style forend is solid and shows numerous old marks, contusions and gouges that are worn smooth and the butt stock rates about the same. It has the original sling swivels and is sighted with a receiver mounted Lyman peep and target front sights. The action functions properly with a tight lock up. This is a very fine example of a desirable Winder Musket, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
