Vintage E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter No.5 Axe

This a really nice embossed vintage E.C.SIMMONS, KEEN KUTTER TRADE MARK, U.S.A. No.5 Axe. The embossing is in excellent condition. The overall length of the handle is 23 ??". The head measures a little over 6 1/2" long and the blade is 4" wide. At a little over 6 inches long, this tell us that this No.5 has been resharpened many time and has had a considerable service life. The handle is not it's original, this handle appears to be hand made and done by a master wood worker, it is a perfect shape and fit with a larger than normal swell at the end. It has a few repairs over its years and is being held to the head with a number of screws and nail driven down into the top to keep them together. Even the screws are antique slot head wood screws.
