Antique Winchester Model 1873 Rifle in .44 W.C.F. Fine Condition
Serial #401798, .44 WCF (.44-40), 24” octagon barrel with a very good bore that has very light pin prick pitting along its length getting slightly heavier toward the muzzle. This is a really nice looking, honest wear rifle that was built in 1891 and retains about 30-40% of the original blue finish that has mellowed to plum-brown along the balance, and silvered slightly along the high edges and projections. The muzzle has some further mild pitting, while the cartridge lifter has developed a ruddy-ochre tarnish, and the action functions flawlessly. The walnut forend and buttstock are in fine condition with only minor surface blemishes and handling marks visible. There are NO large cracks or chips in the wood except for a very minor and old chip at the front edge of the crescent buttplate tang. The stock compartment is empty. This is a splendid looking, mechanically excellent rifle that rates fine condition overall, and would make a good addition to any collection. Antique
