Desirable Winchester Lee Commercial Model Navy Rifle Made in 1898
Serial #11251, 6mm Lee (.263 USN), 28" barrel with a very good, lightly freckled bore. This is an 1898-made commercial version of the USN Lee rifle, and does not have any of the naval contract or inspector markings. The metal retains 75-80% of the original blue with the balance turned to a mellow plum-brown patina. Additionally, there is streaked gray metal along the bearing surfaces of the straight-pull bolt, which is complete and still has the original extractor. The walnut stock and handguard have numerous small handling marks and small blemishes throughout, with some minor surface scratches throughout. These commercial naval rifles were built both with and without bayonet lugs, and this example has the lug present. This is a fine example of a desirable Winchester Lee, in the military configuration, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
