The Armoury of Windsor Castle by Sir Guy Francis Laking (1904)

This is a large and handsome traditionally bound book which has the embossed royal cypher of Edward VII on the cover. The book has a half leather binding which is flaked along the spine but still intact with a legible gilded title. The interior has a presentation plate from the king and the handwritten name of a subsequent owner (J.R. Mayer). The book is printed on heavy, archival paper and catalogs and describes the European arms and armor then housed at Windsor. The book has 39 illustration plates and pictures armor, swords, daggers, guns, and other items; many belonging to famous persons including George III, Charles I, Philip IV of Spain, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Henry VIII. The book was written by one of the most respected arms historians of all time; Sir Guy Francis Laking, Bart., C.B., M.V.O., F.S.A., (1875 ?»???? 1919) who had been appointed Keeper of the King's Armoury in 1902 and supervised its rearrangement at the castle.
