1st Model Leather Grip Danish M1889 Knife/Bayonet For Krag Jorgenson Gevaer M/1889 Rifle

This is a Scarce, high condition, original Model 1889 Danish knife/bayonet for the Model 1889 Krag-Jorgensen Gevaer rifle.  Improved in 1893 to wood grips this early example has the original checkered leather grips that remain in excellent condition.  It measures 13 ¾ inches overall with a 9with a single edge blade that remains armory bright with fullers on either side marked “ALEX.COPPEL / SOLINGEN” on the ricasso.  This was made by Alexander Coppel & Co. located in Solingen for export.  Marked with crown proof on the cross guard and Serial #79193 on the pommel along with “17B.355” on the other side which is likely a unit number.  The leather body, steel tip and throated scabbard is in excellent condition numbered on the tip “34.614”.  A quite rare and early first model 1889 Danish Krag knife bayonet in very high condition.
