British Percussion Turn-Off Pistol by Swinfin of Kent
NSN, .45 Caliber, 2 13/16" octagon barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This pistol was made ca. 1850-1870 and has an unusual faceted barrel with maker’s name engraved along the top flat: "J. SWINFIN." The metal has an overall pewter gray patina with scattered spots of mild surface freckling throughout. Floral engraving is present on the frame and at the muzzle, with a dolphin head hammer as well. The bag-shaped, checkered walnut grip is in fine shape, with only a few minor handling marks and some flattening of the points. The action is fully functional and the barrel turns easily without a spanner. John Swinfen / Swinfin was a maker who operated in Maidstone, Kent, from 1831 until about 1870. This is a nice example of his work and is in very good overall condition. Antique
