Excellent Commercial British Charger-Loading Lee-Enfield Mk. I* Rifle by BSA Identified

Serial #G0873 / 372, .303 British, 30" barrel with an excellent ,bright bore. This is a BSA-made rifle that matching numbers on the receiver and barrel, and retains 92-95% of the original blue, with some silvering along the raised edges and projections, as well as some scattered small spots of freckling here and there. The matching numbered bolt has some further fading along the bearing surfaces, and some more freckling on the handle. The rifle is equipped with the unusual target sights, possibly of the owner’s own design, and the volley sights and magazine cut-off are still present. The walnut forend, handguard, and buttstock have some lovely feathered grain visible, and have some minor handling marks scattered about the added oil finish. A single magazine is included. The brass buttplate is engraved with a name: "H.N.G. COBBE"; who we have identified as Hervic Nugent Grahame Cobbe (1861 – 1953), a civil engineer and British patent holder (Pat. #GB190611381A granted on May 15, 1906; for an improved grinding pan for use in the milling of gold and other ores) who died in London in July of 1953. This is a splendid "Long Lee" rifle, and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
