Civil War Colt 1851 Navy Revolver Built in 1862
Serial #120086, .36 Caliber black powder percussion, 7 ½ inch barrel with a very fine bore with strong rifling. This is a Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver with matching grip frame, trigger guard and frame having the barrel and cylinder both numbered the same but to a different gun. It was built in 1862 and has a name pressed into to the left side of the grip “SHEEHAN” which is likely the soldiers name, somewhat common in the war but worthy of further research. Condition is fine to very fine overall with period rust blue refinish on the cylinder and perhaps the barrel as well. The frame shows muted bone case-colors and the brass trigger-guard is a pleasing aged brass. The grips are solid showing numerous old use marks and contusions along the butt. The action functions properly. A great looking Civil War '51 Navy. Antique
