Early 18th Century Brass Barreled Pistol by Demraht of Essen

NSN, .62 Caliber, 13 1/4" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore.  This is a handsome, brass-mounted pistol that has a wedding band muzzle, light floral engraving at the breech, and an unusual brass lockplate with steel cock and frizzen.  The lockplate itself has a clear and easily legible maker name: "N. DEMRAHT / ESSEN."  The brass was cleaned a long time ago and has an overall, bright yellow-ochre patina, while the steel components have a bright gray patina.  The carved walnut stock is in fine shape, with some minor handling marks scattered about the old oil finish, as well as a few very small chips around the fastening pins along the forend.  The brass furniture has a matching patina, including on the elaborate pierced sideplate, and on the domes brass pommel cap.  The pistol comes with a tapered ebony ramrod, and the action is fully functional.  There is an "N. Demrath" listed as a maker in Essen ca. 1735, probably related to Jacob Demrath (1651 – 1711), and this is almost certainly an example of his work.  It is a handsome pistol, perfect for display, and is in very good-fine condition.  Antique
