WW2 German Army Officer's Saber by Eickhorn
This sword measures 38" overall with a 32 1/2" slightly curved, single-edged blade having 3/4 length unstopped single fullers. The steel has an overall excellent original polish and crisp Eickhorn "Squirrel" trademark on the ricasso obverse. The hilt is Eickhorn's "Freiherr" pattern (engraved, dovehead hilt with cast Wehrmacht eagle on the obverse langet) and has a mellow russet and ochre patina on the brass with original gilt finish remaining on the low spots of the oak leaf and acorn motif relief embellishments. The reverse "P" guard has some small areas of oxidation along the exterior. The black composite grip is in fine shape with some mild surface wear evident, and a braided wire wrap. The undented metal scabbard has about 70-75% of the original black paint finish remaining with the balance flaked to the underlying plum-brown oxidized base metal, and some further flecks of paint along the entire surface. This is a fine World War II sword overall.
