Fine Allen & Thurber Bar Hammer No. 9 Self Cocking Percussion Pistol
Serial / Batch #163, .36 Caliber Black Powder Percussion, 4.25 inch part round, part octagon barrel with a fine bore with very good rifling and slight scattered roughness. This is an Allen & Thurber marked Bar Hammer No. 9 self cocking percussion pistol marked on the hammer “ALLENS PATENT” and is circa late 1840's. It could be loaded either by the muzzle or unscrewing the barrel and loading from the breech with the aid of a combination wrench / bullet mold. In fine antique condition the metal surfaces have a pleasing aged gray / brown patina with some scattered use marks. The original bag shaped grips rate about excellent, are correctly numbered to the gun and are free of any cracks showing some old minor contusions and retains much of the original finish. The double action mechanism functions properly. A fine example of an Allen & Thurber Bar Hammer. Antique.
