French M1771 Socket Bayonet Rev-War Era
This is a French M1771 Socket Bayonet, with a nearly15" triangular blade, 5.5" fuller on the upper face near the tip, scalloped shoulders, deep maker's mark on the ricasso "JB", 2.5" socket with short .75" mortise and locking ring on the end. The finish appears original and not cleaned with a mottled gray-brown patina with patches of oxidation, over all in very good+ condition. I can find no other markings on the socket or neck. This pattern bayonet was widely used in the American Revolution.
