French Model 1866 Chassepot Bayonet w/ Scabbard Built 1871 Chatellerault

This is a French Model 1866 Chassepot bayonet built at Chatellerault in 1871.  It measures 27 ½ inches overall with a 22 5/8 inch Yataghan blade with two fullers and flat spine marked with year and place of manufacture at Chaterllerault.  The blade has a mostly plum-brown patina with numerous impact nicks on the blade.  The hooked quillon and muzzle ring are mostly a darker mottled patina with serial number #51535 and the appropriate French proofs.  It comes in a non-matching number steel scabbard that shows much of the original blue with scattered oxidation spots.  A fine example overall.
