French Model 1874 Gras Bayonet by St. Etienne

Serial #91774. This 1877 dated bayonet measures 25 3/8 overall, with a 20 1/2 straight, T-shaped blade. The steel has an overall pewter gray patina with some dark freckling near the tip, and a single area of dark freckling along the spine. The hooked quillon and muzzle-ring have a darker, mottled patina, while the brass pommel has a dull ocher color as well. The wooden grip panels are in excellent condition with only minor handling marks in the original oil finish. The matching number scabbard has 85-90% of the original blue remaining with light surface oxidation. This is a fine example of a Gras bayonet overall.
