Rare 1918 Dated Remington Model 1917 Bayonet & Scabbard

This is a WWI M1917 bayonet manufactured by Remington housed in a M1917 leather and steel scabbard dated 1918.  The majority of Remington bayonets are marked 1917 and it is believed that the company began marking some 1918 to reflect the year of manufacture and they were ordered to change back to the 1917 stamping reflecting the model designation.  In any event these are scarce.  In very fine to near excellent condition the 21 ½ inch OAL bayonet has a 16 7/8 inch very lightly sharpened fullered blade that is mostly gray with some very light nicks on the edge.  Is is marked with flaming bomb, Inspector Eagle 17 and cross sword marks over “US” on the reverse and “1918” / Remington in circle on the obverse.  The crossguard and pommel are also mostly gray with light surface marks.  The wood grips are near excellent with light use mark, contusions.  It comes in a M1917 leather and steel throated and tipped scabbard manufactured by Jewell Belting company in Hartford, Connecticut with a slightly loose throat that is lacking original finish.  A rare Remington 1918 marked model 1917 Bayonet.
