Rare Very Fine Civil War Ball Repeating Carbine

NSN, .50 RF, 20 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few small spots of freckling near the muzzle. This is a very handsome carbine that retains about 85-90% of the original bright color case-hardening on the receiver, with some mild silvering along the edges and bearing surfaces, as well as a single area of plum-brown freckling on the left side where it meets the forend. The barrel retains 70-75% of the original blue, with another spot of plum-brown freckling along the top of the breech portion just ahead of the rear sight. The walnut forend and buttstock have minor handling marks and surface scratches marring the original military oil finish, with crisp inspector cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The action is tight and functions flawlessly. The original cleaning rod is also included. Only 1,002 of these carbines were produced to fill an 1864 government order with delivery in May of 1865. This example is in exceptionally nice condition and would make a great addition to any collection of US or Civil War weapons. Antique
