Antique W. Parkhurst English 10 Ga Hammer Double Shotgun
Serial #11070, 10 Gauge (2 3/4” chambers black powder proofed), 32 inch solid rib barrels of Fine Laminated steel, choked about full and full with very good bores having thick walls showing some light roughness and one small dent on the left tube about 7” from the muzzle. This is a Birmingham proofed double, side-by-side hammer shotgun manufactured by J P Clarbough Company and sold under the “W Parkhurst” name on the American market as an affordable English shotgun from the 1880's to the turn of the century. This example bears the early definitive Black Powder proof marks from Birmingham, England. In antique fine condition the barrels show much of the original brown finish with the laminated Damascus pattern visible. The frame shows moderate engraving with some original blue on the side plates and the balance a pewter gray. With the exception of a chip at the toe and later added screw in the forearm tip the wood is solid with worn checkering and numerous old use marks. The lock up is tight with barrels on face, the hammers function properly with the right one slightly loose. A rugged English made double that with proper low pressure loads might be fun to shoot.
