US Navy - Navy Colt Model 1851 Revolver Built in 1858

Serial #89382, .36 Caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling along its length. This is an 1858-made revolver that has an overall mottled gray patina, with some scattered areas of freckling, as well as some minor impact marks around the wedge on both sides. Traces of original color case-hardening is still present on the protected portion of the loading lever. All numbers match, except for the unnumbered wedge and backstrap, where the number and USN Inspector markings were scrubbed from the butt and grips at some point, and is now blank. A small "US" stamp is present on the left side of the frame indicative of US Navy purchase, and the hammer is a replacement from a cartridge conversion and has the milling for an offset rimfire firing pin on the left side of the nose. The walnut grip has some small handling marks throughout on both sides. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly. This is a very good example of a ‘51 “Navy – Navy,”! Antique
