Winchester Model 1873 Rifle Octagon 32 WCF & Cody Letter Mfg 1887 Factory Set Trigger

Serial #223499B, .32 WCF (.32-20), 24 inch octagon barrel with a very fine bore with light roughness and strong rifling. This is a 3rd Model Winchester Model 1873 rifle that shipped from the Winchester warehouse on January 25, 1887 and had a factory set trigger installed and has the improved integral dovetail dust cover rib. The barrel is well marked “WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16.1860.” In very fine overall condition the metal surfaces have mostly turned a plum brown with protected areas highlighting the original blue and silvered on the high edges, and some scattered use marks and nicks. The hammer shows traces of the original case-hardened colors. The set trigger is not functioning but all the correct pieces are there except the adjustment screw. It will need attention but the gun does cock and will fire as normal. The brass lifter is marked “32 CAL” and is inscribed the initials “J.R.G.”. The stock and forearm are both solid with scattered old contusions and gouges having a 1 ¾ inch repaired chip a the toe with. It is sighted with an adjustable rear sporting sight and German silver blade front sight. The action functions properly with a smooth and crisp lever and a working dust cover. A great antique Model 73. Antique
