Winchester Model 1897 Riot Shotgun Converted to Trench built in 1910

Serial #E448091, 12 Ga. (2 3/4"), 20" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling along its length. This is 1910 made gun (part of the early E433000 – E474000 block of guns listed in Government inventory) that retains 40-50% of the original blue finish on barrel, magazine tube, and protected areas, with an overall plum-brown patina with large areas of pewter gray on the balance. The gun has "US / (Flaming Bomb)" on the right side of the frame, just ahead of the ejection port, a "(Flaming Bomb)" on the top of the breech, and is outfitted with a six row metal handguard. The handguard is affixed by two screws, and the walnut forend and buttstock are in very good-fine shape with small handling and usage marks in the original varnish finish. The original checkered black Winchester buttplate has very little wear. Additionally, a brown US Model 1907 leather sling, in very good condition is installed. These pre-E613000 serial numbered guns were, according to Canfield, almost certainly all civilian riot guns purchased by the US, possibly from commercial dealers, and this example was converted to Trench Gun configuration at some point during its history. It is a very neat piece, is in very good condition overall, and is in a desirable configuration. FFL or C&R
