Ithaca Hammerless Lewis Model Grade 1 Double Shotgun
Serial #101255, 12 GA (2 3/4"), 30" Damascus twist barrels choked full and full with bright, excellent bores. This a field grade Lewis model manufactured by Ithaca in 1904 and was the first model to introduce the top-bolt. The gun is in excellent overall condition with the barrels retaining virtually all of the original twist Damascus pattern with very mild thinning along the right barrel. The action retains about 85% of the original vibrant case-hardened colors showing some silvering on the high edges, a few errant freckles and muting to a pleasant silvery case-hardened patina along the bottom metal. The top lever, triggers and triggerguard retain about 93-95% original bright blue showing some minor thinning and flaking along the bow of the guard. The sides of the action are crisply engraved with a light foliate motif and "ITHACA HAMMERLESS" in a scroll. The checkered capped pistolgrip walnut buttstock remains in very fine condition showing a couple of very tiny flakes forming near the upper tang, a light scratch along the right side wrist and some scattered light dings. The toe has been chipped and neatly repaired along with the tip of the buttplate (See photos). The forend shows a bit more wear with a thin 1 1/4" crack and a number of small slivers missing along its right edge. The hard rubber pistolgrip cap remains in very good plus condition. Length-of-pull is 14" with drops of 1 7/8" and 3". The arm features non-automatic safety and single large celluloid bead. Lock-up is tight on-face with the top lever resting right of center and seems to function well mechanically. This is a very nice Lewis model Ithaca rarely seen in this condition. FFL or C&R
