Engraved Spanish Garate, Anitua & Co. .38 Pocket Revolver S&W Copy

Serial #520801, .38 S&W, 3 1/2" barrel with a very good bore that has some light-moderate pitting within the grooves. This is a rather nice Spanish copy of the S&W Fourth Model .38 DA revolver, and retains 90-95% of the original nickel finish that has flaked to the underlying gray-brown metal on the balance. Most of the finish loss occurs along the rear portion of the cylinder, as well as along the backstrap where the exposed steel has a dark plum-brown patina. Traces of original blue remain on the trigger guard, and bright, original color case-hardening is still present on the sides of the hammer and trigger. The revolver is decorated with full coverage New York style engraving, but with crosshatched shading rather than the usual punch-dots. The grips are period celluloid, and are in very good condition with a tiny chip, and some minor cracks at the top edge of the right panel, and some other scattered handling marks. Both panels are neatly engraved with the name "A. PLET" near the butt. The revolver is equipped with a lanyard ring, barrel-to-frame fit is very good, and the action functions well mechanically, however the cylinder does not lock when the hammer is at rest. FFL or C&R
