Boxed Smith & Wesson 38 Safety Hammerless New Departure 4th Model 1906

Serial #198608, .38 S&W, 3.25 inch round ribbed barrel with a very fine, bright bore with small patches of roughness and strong rifling.  This is a Fourth Model .38 Safety Hammerless manufactured by Smith & Wesson which the factory letter indicates shipped on March 29, 1906 to the Folsom Arms Company in New York City.  In excellent condition the metal surfaces retain about 96-98% original bright nickel finish with some pinprick pitting near the muzzle and some scattered very fine flaking toning to a brown patina. The trigger guard retains about 85-90% original bright blue with some small spots of light oxidation and high edge wear toning to gray and the latch is toning to a dark gray patina. The trigger displays some speckles of light oxidation staining and nice wisps of case-hardened colors. The checkered hard rubber grips rate about excellent, the checkering slightly softened on the rear of the right panel which is properly stamped-numbered to the gun. All the serialized parts are matching the frame, and barrel-to-frame fit, timing and lock-up are excellent.  It comes in a red pebble factory box which is not pencil-numbered to the gun but is properly end labeled in excellent condition retaining is shape with only very light corner wear and excellent end and interior labels. Included is a factory letter from Smith & Wesson.  This is an excellent example of a Fourth Model 38 Safety Hammerless that will be a welcome addition to your collection.  This gun was previously sold at Amoskeag Auction as part of the Roy Jinks Family Collection.  FFL or C&R
