Description

This is a French M1771 Socket Bayonet, with a nearly15" triangular blade, 5.5" fuller on the upper face near the slightly damaged tip, scalloped shoulders, has maker's mark on the ricasso, 2 5/8" socket with short .25" mortise and locking ring on the end. The finish appears original and not cleaned with a mottled gray-brown patina with patches of oxidation, over all in very good+ condition. I can find no other markings on the socket or neck. This pattern bayonet was widely used in the American Revolution.
