British Baker Rifle Second "Pattern 1801" Sword Bayonet
This is a British Baker Rifle Second "Pattern 1801" Sword Bayonet with a flat blade of 22 2/4" long, 1 1/4" wide by 1/4" thick at the hilt. It was double-edged for about 5" at the spear shaped point. The hilt measured 4 1/2" and has a rounded off D corner where the knucklebow met the crossguard. The blade has some pitting and has dulled to a nice silver gray finish ending in a blunted tip. The guard and grip both show 200+ years of use and handling. The spring is in excellent working condition and the pommel is marked with "X" and a W. The early pattern long sword bayonets, when fixed to the short Baker rifle, gave an overall length close to that of the Brown Bess and bayonet.
